Intersectionality Lens Project

During my Social Justice in the Classroom course, we observed and analyzed two documentaries and then created an intersectionality lens that represented both of the documentary points of view. My group chose "Miss Representation" and "Who Am I to Stop It." This lens provided us the ability to see women's experiences in media and artists who are survivors of a TBI.

This activity enters my classroom while I teach character analysis. The inside of the lens provides how a character looks at the world. The right temple, "unable to do what I want," represents what the person feels is the biggest obstacle. The left temple, "to be taken seriously," describes the character's super-objective. Finally, the bridge, "not good enough," illustrates how the characters feel perceived.
