Classroom Layout
The classroom layout below was created for an internship at Siloam Springs High School. This ground plan has four major components designed to increase student engagement.

1.) Students can utilize the vertical space of their table without distracting or interfering with the learning of their table partner.

2) When working in groups, there are multiple configurations that students can assume.
-
If I need TWO groups, I can separate students by even and odd numbers based on their seats.
-
When we work on a project that requires THREE groups, students can be separated by table color.
-
Students can work with their alphabetical family members when I need FIVE groups.
-
Students also can work with their table partners if a project only requires two people.

3.) The classroom resources and materials are located on one wall. This provides students with a central location to look for to complete projects. This same wall also features the assignment turn-in and script holder.

4.) Performance is a central theme within the theatre classroom. A distinguished performance space invites students to compartmentalize where they are working and what that will require. Siloam Springs High School is fortunate enough to provide a mini black-box theatre within the theatre arts classroom. However, I recognize that this luxury will not always be provided. The essential quality that I would like to focus on resides in a designated space for student presentation other than the front of the classroom.
